Day 2: The Heart of the Matter

So how do we discover what God loves at our table? How do we seat ourselves at the table without shame, guilt and constant obsession with food and appearance? How do we change our automatic self criticism?

It’s quite simple.

Out of the heart flows all the issues of life.

We’ve sat down at our table and we’ve given distraction a chair to join us. Comparison, the comfort of food, the voice of our upbringing have pulled up a chair too. Hurtful words have devoured the food on the table! How about the warped measure of what’s acceptable sitting there too!

How do we truly change this?

Out of the heart flows the issues of life.

If we want to lay a suitable table, to experience incredible freedom by understanding Gods perspective, to enjoy our bodies, the food and function optimally, we have to truly have a revelation of Gods love for us. Our heart has been filled with issues that rob us of the fullness of God. Our hearts need the healing revelation of His heart for us.

He loved us first.

He has already seated Himself at our table. His eyes have NEVER left us and He is constantly waiting for our eyes to find Him at the table too. God’s gaze is not fixed on our perceived shortcomings, or the “wrong” food on our plate. He’s not looking at the distractions also seated at the table. He hasn’t pulled the table cloth out in a rage. It’s not Him turning away, it’s us with our eyes looking at all our self help tools.

He knows that if our eyes stay on Him long enough, the revelation of His love will turn our hearts to Him. The distractions may clang their glass trying to get our attention, but eventually they’ll leave as a dismissed guest.

With our eyes fixed on Him, our hearts will KNOW His goodness. It will naturally become our uncompromising hearts desire to keep our eyes on Him even if we hear voices on either side, or see sticky fingers trying to steal from our feast. We will see, know and experience His great tangible pleasure at being in our company and our war with food and appearance will have a new Commander.

What does this look like practically though? How do we keep our eyes on Him and allow the good to outweigh the negative?

We really do need to realise that it’s just continuous repetition. When bombarded with “must perform” negatives, we bombard back with the thought that the Lord loves us and accepts us way more!! The more we do, the easier and natural it will become.

Remember when the devil comes to rob, steal and destroy, it doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means you have something of value, you are something of value.

He LOVES you, He has given you the victory already but we just have to keep it at hand!
